ACLU Sues over Gene Patent
The ACLU is suing Myriad Genetics over its patents on the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, both linked to breast and ovarian cancers. At the moment Myriad holds the exclusive right to conduct tests on the two genes. The ACLU is arguing that the patenting of these genes — and by extension all genes — limits research and innovation.
